“Wow! I love my new smile!”
We hear this frequently from our patients because much of what we do is focused on making your smile look and feel better.
Cosmetic dentistry is any dentistry done to correct imperfections in the appearance of the mouth. Anyone who is unhappy with their smile, whether it be all the teeth in the smile or just a small detail of it, is a candidate for cosmetic dentistry. The color, alignment and spacing, as well as the regularity in the shape of the teeth are the characteristics that give the overall appearance. Any of these can be changed to give a stunning and beautiful smile. The Roselle dentist offers a wide variety of cosmetic options.
Some of these options are whitening, smile design, recontouring of the shape of the teeth, veneers, bonding, all ceramic/porcelain crowns and Invisalign — tooth movement without braces.
Whitening
This is the procedure of making teeth whiter, and therefore more attractive. Our Roselle dentist uses several methods: Opalescence Boost!, passive tray whitening, and professional strength white strips.
Boost! is a revolutionary tooth whitening procedure. It’s safe effective and fast, very fast. In just over an hour, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. The Boost! Whitening procedure is simple, convenient and quick in comparison to using whitestrips or wearing trays and so makes it the perfect choice for the busy individual. It begins with a short preparation to isolate your lips and gums. Our hygienists then apply the proprietary Boost! whitening gel that is activated by a specially designed light. Teeth typically become from two to ten shades whiter. A fluoride treatment completes the procedure. You’ll be amazed with the results. In most cases, teeth get even whiter the first few days after the procedure. Trays with gel are recommended afterward for maximum whitening and maintenance.
The passive tray method involves having impressions taken from which we make fabricated custom vinyl trays. A whitening gel is placed in these trays, and the trays with gel are worn overnight or for at least 3 hours per day. The entire process takes approximately 2 weeks of use. Two different strengths of gel are available, and the strength of the gel used is determined by the likelihood of any tooth sensitivity.
A controlled, long term tray method is recommended by the dentist Roselle for badly stained teeth, such as tetracycline staining, and has shown a significant color improvement after several months.
The end results, whether using trays at home or doing Boost!, is the same. The cost of the tray method is about half that compared to Boost!, and there is usually less post-treatment sensitivity. But of course, Boost! gives immediate results for that special occasion.
Veneers
Veneers are coverings placed over the outside (visible area) of the tooth to mask defects in color, shape or position. Veneers are usually only put over the part of the tooth that is visible when talking or smiling. The veneers can be shaped and sculpted directly on your teeth with tooth colored composite s or can be fabricated in our lab in beautiful porcelain and placed on your teeth ready made. The method of placing any veneer in your mouth is referred to as bonding.
Getting porcelain veneers made usually involves two appointments because the veneers will be fabricated at a dental laboratory. At the first appointment the teeth are prepared, impressions taken, and the teeth are given a temporary covering. In two to three weeks the veneers are back from the laboratory, the temporaries are removed and the veneers are bonded to the teeth. The laboratory fabricated veneers are made using porcelain or pressed ceramic, and are very esthetic.
Assuming that you are a candidate for veneers, the advantage of veneers over crowns is that much less tooth structure is removed for a veneer. Crowns are recommended for teeth that have large fillings or little tooth structure or that need to be cosmetically changed to a greater degree.
Invisalign- Invisible Teeth Aligners
Invisalign straightens your teeth with a series of clear, virtually invisible custom-molded aligners and you’ll notice results within weeks. The course of treatment involves changing aligners approximately every two weeks, moving your teeth into a straighter position step by step, until you have a more beautiful smile. And unlike braces, these clear aligners can be removed while you eat and you can effectively brush your teeth as usual. You can even use the last tray as a bleaching tray after the orthodontics is done.
Some of these options are whitening, smile design, recontouring of the shape of the teeth, veneers, bonding, all ceramic/porcelain crowns and Invisalign — tooth movement without braces.
